What is bubble wrap?
In the mail order business, bubble wrap is considered a reliable protection and cushioning option. The material is a particularly elastic and usually transparent plastic film. It consists of at least two layers of polyethylene. One of the two layers acts as a smooth cover film, which makes up the flat side of the bubble wrap. Next to this is a second layer that makes up the air cushion. Small bubbles are incorporated into the film at regular intervals. Children in particular are fascinated by this classic packaging material and like to pop the little bubbles after receiving a package.
A variety of uses for bubble wrap
Bubble wrap is used whenever objects need to be protected. The main use is for cushioning and insulating objects, primarily in the mail order business. Especially several products in the shipping box should be well protected against shocks and falls. The consequence of such unprotected shipping is often not only damaged products, but also a damaged shipping box. Bubble wrap is the ideal way to protect your goods. You can use it to wrap the individual products, but also to generously cushion hollow spaces. At Verpacking you will find bubble wrap in various designs so that you can find the right product for your project. Bubble wrap is often used as a protective inner layer on the walls and bottom of the box. This additionally stabilises the box and makes it all the more stable for shipping.
Bubble wrap in different variations
If you are looking for the right bubble wrap for logistics work or the shipping business, you should make sure that you choose the right film. Bubble wrap can be differentiated based on two characteristics: The size of the bubble studs and the width of the rolls.
The nubs on the film are small bubbles filled with air and give bubble wrap its name. The small air chambers are created mechanically while the two layers of film are welded together. The best-known bubble wrap is the one with the small air bubbles. These have a standardised diameter of only one centimetre. Due to the particularly small nubs, the film remains flexible and movable and can therefore be used in many ways. Other variants of bubble wrap have larger nubs with a diameter of 3 centimetres. This is less flexible, but more resilient. For this reason, in practice it is mainly used in combination with heavy objects. While the small nubs of the standard film would burst too easily here, the 3cm bubbles can withstand greater loads and develop an enormous protective effect. You can also use the stronger protective effect of this film for very valuable objects.
