Quick and efficient visualisation with whiteboards
As comfortable and powerful as modern presentation software may be today, in many cases it is simply faster to reach for a pen and write down the information, a diagram or a collection of keywords.
If this information is to be shared with others, overhead projectors are suitable - but the necessary technology must be available and the room must often be darkened. If this is not possible, whiteboards are used!
Whiteboards consist of a white plastic surface mounted on a solid background; for example, pressboard. The whole thing is usually held together by an aluminium frame that can be hung on the wall or attached to a stand. The size of the whiteboards ranges from approx. DIN A4 to poster size A1, depending on the intended use.
These whiteboards are not intended for permanent information, but are used for frequently changing content. Texts or drawings must therefore be easily removable or correctable; this is why special whiteboard markers are used for writing on them. These markers are not simple non-permanent pens, as their ink would not adhere to the smooth plastic surface. Since you write on the board with your bare hand, the ink must at least be smudge-proof.
Although the ink is smudge-proof, it must be easy to remove from the board. If possible, this should be done without a damp cloth or even special cleaning fluids. Whiteboard markers can be wiped dry with special sponges. Of course, this places special demands on the marker, because on the one hand it should be smudge-proof against contact, and then still be able to be wiped off with the sponge without leaving any residue! By now, at the latest, it should be clear that a normal, non-permanent marker is out of the question.
Whiteboards are used in many offices and training rooms where you want to present information of any kind quickly and for all to see, without technical effort or special measures. Especially when things have to be done quickly. And in this respect, the "white boards" are superior to any presentation software!
