The total is calculated from the longest and shortest side of the package. If your GLS Package S dimensions do not exceed 50 cm, it can be shipped as such without a price surcharge.

Europe-wide package shipment is divided into country groups

If it is an international package shipment, it is divided into four country groups. Depending on the destination country to which the package is sent, different postage costs are incurred. The same standards apply as for domestic shipping: a total weight of no more than 40 kg and the sum of the dimensions of the longest and shortest side of no more than 50 cm. Wrap the box with tape and seal it on all sides. The heavier or larger the shipping package, the stronger the packing tape must be. Any voids in the inner part are padded with filler material, for example crumpled newspaper or thin filler paper. There should be no space between the carton and the actual goods. Suitable polystyrene pieces are recommended for heavy and fragile items. In addition, light items can be wrapped in bubble wrap or filled with corn chips. It is important that there is no direct contact between the main product and the packaging, this prevents damage. Always place the shipping label on the widest side of the package. Old labels should be removed in advance in any case.

Important: If the goods are fragile and are marked with a seal on the shipping package, an additional charge usually has to be paid. The seal should therefore only be applied if the inner part is highly fragile, for example in the case of glass. Pay particular attention to the package end size and the final weight of the package for all shipments. This should ideally be weighed including all filling materials, together with the packed goods. On top of that, there are a few exceptions for certain packages, as some goods cannot be sent with the GLS shipping service, including perishable goods or cash, for example. GLS package shipment is conveniently done via online franking or via ParcelShops. If it is an online franking, calculated data and the destination area can be entered directly online. To do this, the dimensions are entered into a franking calculator, which determines the costs for the S package. Finally, only the destination address and the recipient need to be added. The payment process is initiated directly afterwards and the parcel label can be printed out and affixed at home. The shipping carton can then be franked and taken from your location to the pick-up point.

To send a box to the GLS parcel store, "Send @ ParcelShop" is selected directly via the website. You can then use the ParcelShop search to find a GLS ParcelShop near the recipient. You will be notified directly after delivery and can pick up the goods at the parcel store. This service of GLS is useful when it is not sure whether you can accept the box personally.

FlexDeliveryService is another additional service that delivers your GLS Package S size safely to your home. Recipients receive email notifications about the current status of the package at different times, for example, when the shipping package has been left with a neighbor or parcel store. These emails also allow you to change shipping options, such as having the box delivered to a different address. In addition, a power of attorney can be issued to receive the S package. This is simply created using the GLS online form. Authorized persons must bring a power of attorney and official identification. Sending bulky goods is also possible with S packages

A bulky goods shipment refers to a shipping method that focuses on shipping disproportionate or oversized items. These packages may differ in size, weight, and shape from regular S packages. Because packages are inspected daily with automated sorting equipment, items outside the norm must be sorted out and declared as bulky goods. This results in additional costs for transporting the shipment, as it does not meet the regular standard.
