You choose the right carton along three axes: format and size of your contents, fragility and weight, shipping route. Flat contents tend toward letter format, heavy or fragile goods toward double wall, high daily volume toward automatic bottoms. For unusual dimensions, the configurator leads to custom sizing.
There are three generic size classes: flat letter formats for thin contents, medium standard cartons for typical shipments, and large or reinforced variants for heavy or fragile goods. In parallel sit specialty shapes for specific contents like books, bottles or long rolls. Alongside these are models designed for fast assembly at the packing station. When none of these classes fit, there is custom sizing.
The shape and outer dimensions of your contents determine the basic carton class. Flat, compact, bulky or long are the main patterns.
Single wall is enough for light and non-fragile goods. Double wall is needed for heavy or fragile goods and for longer transport routes.
Classic flap closures need tape. Automatic bottoms and self-adhesive strips save seconds per parcel.
Which carrier and which parcel class are used restricts the permitted outer dimensions. For common classes, there are pre-configured cartons.
Folding cartons are delivered flat and save warehouse space. At very high quantities, bestseller dimensions and bulk pricing pay off.
If you want to use the unboxing experience, print your logo on the carton or combine it with printed tape. For purely logistical purposes, a neutral brown carton is enough.
Single wall cartons suit light, non-fragile standard goods. They reach their limits with heavy goods or many handling stages. Useful for typical e-commerce shipping of medium-sized items.
Double wall cartons are made for heavy or fragile goods, longer transport routes and stacking loads. They have more own weight and need more space when assembled. Useful for B2B shipping with handling and stacking.
Maxi letter cartons are designed for compact contents with low height. They only carry small, relatively light shipments. Useful for affordable letter format shipments with some height clearance.
Large letter cartons fit very flat contents like documents, thin books or magazines. Height and padding clearance are tightly limited. Useful for affordable letter shipping of flat goods.
Shipping cartons are the all-rounder for versatile standard shipments. There is no specialty shape for unusual contents. Useful for daily shipping without special requirements.
Book cartons are optimized for books, illustrated volumes and bound printed materials. Outside book formats they are less flexible. Useful in online bookselling and publisher shipping.
Automatic cartons target high shipping volumes under time pressure. The price per unit is higher than for classic folding cartons. Useful at packing stations with many shipments per day.
Shipping tubes carry long, rollable contents like plans, posters or fabrics. Only rollable geometries fit. Useful for print shops, architecture firms and textile shipping.
Bottle cartons have inner compartments for one or several bottles with breakage protection. They are tailored to bottle dimensions. Useful for wine, spirits and oil shipping.
Custom cartons cover unusual dimensions, special shapes and brand presence. Minimum order quantity and lead time are required. Useful when standard sizes do not fit or a branded carton is planned.
When time at the packing station becomes the bottleneck, an automatic carton in 2 to 3 standard sizes pays off, combined with fixed-assigned padding portions. This reduces the number of movements per shipment, and the carton choice does not have to be made anew for each order.
When reorders fall out of rhythm, a consumption bundle helps: matching carton, coordinated padding material and matching tape width are ordered together. Warehouse movements decrease and bottlenecks become visible earlier.
When too many special sizes inflate the warehouse, first try to manage with 2 to 3 standard sizes plus padding clearance. Only if that does not hold does the configurator come into play. Standard sizes are immediately available, special sizes need lead time.
When shipping volume rises to a multiple before a season, standard inventory quickly hits a bottleneck. Reorder in stages before the expected increase and raise the share of fast-assembling cartons. Order special sizes in advance, since lead time during the peak cannot be made up.

Measure the longest, second and third edge of the contents. Depending on fragility, plan 1 to 3 cm of padding clearance per side. Then choose the next larger standard size.
Assembled double wall cartons are generally more stackable than single wall ones. Unfolded folding cartons can be stacked flat.
From a shipping volume at which the seconds saved per parcel offset the higher unit price. Typically from several dozen shipments per day.
Yes, many carton variants have tiered prices by quantity. The tiers are visible in the respective product.
The carton inner dimensions determine the padding amount. The carton outer dimensions and load determine the tape width and adhesive strength.
For larger quantities, palletized delivery is possible. Availability and units per pallet are stated in the respective product or confirmed by customer service.
